A Sense of Place

Every place is comprised of a multitude of elements such as its geography, weather, scent and sound that when combined, create "a sense of place." Many characteristics of a place are not always visible, they are the Earth's forces, ancient cultures, plants and animals that have come and gone over thousands and even millions of years. Their essence is imbedded in stone, petrified and preserved. Some would say this is the spirit of a place.

Through Wilderness Theater I attempt to capture this spirit, providing a portal through which the viewer can experience a sense of place.

Film and video has the ability to enhance the sights and sounds of a natural environment: wind whispering through pines; waves crashing on rocks; a creek babbling beneath ice. These audio/visual experiences heighten the awareness of viewers to the unique qualities of wild places.

Wilderness Theater is a video series that captures the dramatic landscapes and natural sounds of parks, nature reserves and World Heritage Sites. These "environmental pieces" are designed to provide an audio/visual experience through enhanced natural audio, dramatic cinematography and acoustical music. Wilderness Theater draws you into the environments of Earth's spectacular wild & scenic places. Wilderness Theater also includes fine landscape & travel photography that compliment the video series.

DVDs, Note cards and photographs are in production for the following locations. They will be available for purchase on-line as they are completed. You can also view high quality 3-6 minute versions of the Wilderness Theater series on-line.
